Daniel D. Britto Earns Recertification As Board-Certified Civil Trial Lawyer

December 4, 2023 – Michael S. Herman, Jr., Esq.

JUPITER, Florida—Britto & Herman Injury Lawyers, the Voice for Florida Injury Victims, proudly announces that Partner & Shareholder Daniel D. Britto, Esq. has earned recertification as a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer by the Florida Bar.

Mr. Britto first obtained his Board Certification in Civil Trial Law in 2017. According to the Florida Bar’s website, the purpose of Board Certification—which lasts for five years before a recertification is required—is “to identify lawyers who practice civil trial law and have the special knowledge, skills, and proficiency, as well as the character, ethics, and reputation for professionalism, to be properly identified to the public as board certified in civil trial law.”

A Board-Certified Civil Trial Lawyer is an attorney who has received special recognition for their expertise and experience in representing clients in civil trial matters. In Florida, the Florida Bar grants this certification. It is a significant accomplishment that requires passing a rigorous exam, demonstrating a high level of knowledge, and showing a significant amount of experience in civil trial law, including numerous jury trials. The process also involves a vigorous peer review by other Board-Certified lawyers, judges and even opposing counsel. Lawyers are evaluated on their experience, knowledge and professionalism before earning board certification in Florida.

Approximately only 1% of lawyers in Florida are Board Certified in Civil Trial Law. According to the Florida Bar, minimum standards for civil trial law certification, provided in Rule 6-4.3, include:

  • Practice of law for at least five years;
  • Substantial involvement in the specialty of civil trial law — 50% or more — during the three years immediately preceding application;
  • Handling of at least 15 contested civil cases, including cases before juries as lead counsel and as trier of fact on some or all of the issues;
  • 50 hours of approved civil trial law certification continuing legal education in the three years immediately preceding application;
  • Peer review; and,
  • A written examination.

Board Certification in civil trial law is the highest level of evaluation by the Florida Bar of an attorney’s competency and experience. In addition to being vetted for his expertise, Britto underwent a rigorous ethics review by opposing attorneys and judges who had been involved in his trials. He has tried nearly fifty jury trials to verdict, including criminal and civil trials, and has earned recognition from TopVerdicts for having Top 100 Verdicts in the State of Florida in personal injury categories in 2016 and 2018.

“I’m grateful to the Florida Bar and my peers for the opportunity to earn recertification,” says Britto. “As a personal injury attorney, it’s crucial to constantly develop and expand your skills, knowledge, and proficiency to better serve clients. I’m dedicated to leveraging the best possible outcomes for every injured person who seeks my legal representation, utilizing my trial experience and expertise in selecting juries and cross-examining insurance company experts. Litigating cases to trial gives my clients the best chance at recovery, whether the case involves a wrongful death, brain and spinal injury, or catastrophic injury. I look forward to serving South Florida clients for many years to come.”
